Frieze London 2013
American artist Jennifer Rubell's work - Portrait of the Artist - was made using a digital scan of her body whilst eight months pregnant and fabricated into a two tonne gleaming white fibreglass sculpture.
Her work in the past has been focused on the act of participation - often inviting viewers to partake in the work, thereby violating the traditional boundaries of art institutions and engaging senses usually forbidden in a gallery context.
This new work keeps on that path - an open inviting womb space, ready to accept visitors is both exceeding hospitable, and also a little bit freaky.
Regardless, I climbed in and found it a comforting perfect little snuggling space.
